Josh Clarke and Maxime Colin scored their first goals for Brentford as they claimed a 4-1 win over Reading.
The Bees had to ride their luck at time as, seconds before taking the lead, George Evans hit the inside of the post before Yann Kermorgant had two shots blocked five minutes before the break.
Brentford countered and produced fine interplay between Romaine Sawyers, Lasse Vibe and Scott Hogan with Clarke burying his shot at the back post.
Moments later and it was 2-0 as Vibe turned the ball home after excellent build-up play to give the half-time score a favourable reading.
John Egan cleared the ball off the line soon after the break before Brentford stepped up a gear and Ali Al Habsi denied Scott Hogan on two occasions in quick succession.
The Bees had their third when Colin bagged his first goal for the club, lashing the ball home from close range.
Reading came back into it and Callum Harriott struck the post before they were handed a lifeline as Nico Yennaris felled Stephen Quinn in the penalty area.
Kermorgant blasted home the resulting spot-kick to narrow the gap but Brentford came back into the game and made it four late on through Scott Hogan.
