Wealdstone 3-0 St Albans City

Gordon Bartlett got an early birthday present as Wealdstone knocked St Albans City out of the FA Trophy on Tuesday night.

The Stones produced one of their best performances of the season as goals from Shaun Lucien, Dan Brown and Scott McGleish set up a first round date with Hayes & Yeading.

Bartlett, who turns 59 today, says the 3-0 victory was top of his wish list and thanked his players for delivering his gift a few hours before his big day.

“I got my birthday present on Tuesday night - that’s what I wanted,” he said. “We were very slow to get out of the blocks but other than that first 10 minutes I thought we dominated.

“Dan Brown wrote his own little story last night. He’s done well since he came in from Maidenhead.

“He was the one that fed the wide men and the pair of them were excellent.

We felt we could get at them in wide areas after Saturday and we got the ball out to Shaun Lucien and Joe Turner.

“I thought Joe was very direct and strong and attacked them. Joe growing in confidence. He’s got so many attributes and I think he will only grow as a player. He’s so quick and strong.”

Sean Cronin missed last night’s game after injuring his ribs in the weekend stalemate with the Saints which forced the replay.

Wealdstone play fellow Conference South strugglers on Staines before taking on Hayes & Yeading in the first round a week later.
