A furious Martin Allen vowed to strengthen his Barnet squad in the loan market after the Bees crashed to a 3-1 home defeat against Forest Green Rovers.

The promotion chasers have now lost three of their last four and failed to capitalise on leaders Bristol Rovers' defeat at home to Eastleigh.

Although, Allen's side have a game in hand over the Pirates against Halifax, the Barnet boss is keen to strengthen his squad for the final run-in.

He said: “I'll have to talk to the chairman but I now have to look at improving the team because it's not right.”

John Akinde had given the home side the lead from the penalty spot after he was felled by Steve Arnold after seven minutes.

However, Rovers were back on level terms after 25 minutes thanks to Dale Bennett's 25-yard strike.

Barnet had looked the more likely to take the lead again but Forest Green caught them on the counter and Jon Parkin fired home in the 67th minute.

And they wrapped up the points from Kurtis Guthrie's header from a corner, leaving Allen unhappy with his side's defensive application in the last half-hour.

The Bees boss added: “I thought we played quite well for about an hour but then poor defending cost us two goals, from a counter attack and a set play.

“I think it was one of the best performances we've had here recently. The crowd got behind the players. We made two costly mistakes. The last 20 minutes was difficult to watch.

“Conceding two goals in the manner we conceded the goals is disappointing. One of them is from a corner and one of them is when we had possession on the left wing and we missed three tackles.”

Injured: Charlie MacDonald

Allen insisted he was unaware of the Bristol Rovers result but did reveal his side were lacking confidence after a bad run of form.

He explained: “All I care about is our players and they've lost a bit of confidence, self-belief. You saw in the first half how well they can play. We have to continue that and get through the whole game.”

Barnet's problems have been made worse after captain Charlie MacDonald was ruled out for up to a month with a calf injury, while stand-in skipper Curtis Weston had to be withdrawn with a thigh problem.
