What a game we have in store today.

Second placed Aston Villa, the Championship's form team, visit Craven Cottage, home of Fulham, the division's second form side in one of the games of the season.

Both sides are harbouring hopes of automatic promotion with only one spot left up for grabs, with Wolves the runaway leaders in the league.

At the moment Villa hold it and are seven clear of Fulham in fifth, but victory today for Slavisa Jokanovic's side will go a long way into clawing back that deficit.

It promises to be a big game, and you can follow the build-up, team news and live match updates right here from 1.30pm.

FULL TIME: Fulham 2-0 Villa

After a fairly even first half it was one way traffic after the break. Sessegnon put Fulham into the lead with a cool finish from a cut back cross. Ayite then doubled the score with a spectacular effort into an empty net from just inside the Villa half after Johnstone scuffed a clearance. Job done for Fulham who must now focus on Wednesday’s clash with Bristol City.

Five minutes added on

Piazon on for Ayite

87: That’s Ayite’s afternoon over, and what a good second half performance it’s been. He makes way for Piazon. Villa also make a change, Snodgrass is replaced by Davis.

Fulham lowered tempo

85: Fulham have slowed the game down to a walking pace and passing it around the Villa players like they’re not even there. When Villa do get the ball they are really struggling to string together anything meaningful.

Ole time at the Cottage

81: It’s ole time and the Whites are content with keeping possession. After a long period of passing play, McDonald is slipped in behind the defence and connects with Tuanzebe after poking a tame effort at goal. He went down rubbing his back but returns to his feet after a short appointment with the physio.

Kamara nearly in!

79: Kamara plays a one-two with Sessegnon on the left wing and looks to get in behind the defence who had pressed high. His touch takes the ball slightly beyond him and Johnstone slides in to collect the ball.

First Fulham sub

77: Fulham make their first sub and bring on Kamara for Mitrovic, who receives a standing ovation.

Mitrovic goes close!

73: It should be three. It’s all very scrappy inside the Villa six-yard box and the ball is worked back out wide to Sessegnon. He floats a cross into the middle and Ayite heads agonisingly over. Craven Cottage is literally rocking.

Fulham fancying themselves

73: Fulham fancy themselves now. Johansen and Cairney combine to set up space for Mitrovic to shoot but his effort is aimed right at the goalkeeper who saves with ease.

GOAL! Ayite doubles the lead!!

72: What a goal! The Villa goalkeeper, Johnstone, takes a freekick to the right of his penalty area. The clearance is scuffed to Ayite who collects the ball just outside the centre circle inside the Villa half, and shoots into the empty net.

Johansen in the book

66: Onomah is breaking forward and after breaching the Fulham midfield on the right side, Johansen slides in and brings him to the ground. Villa, meanwhile, take Jedinak off for Grabban.

Fulham relaxed in possession

63: Fulahm are relaxed in possession here and are cautiously looking for a second goal. Their attempts to double the scoreline are being helped by Villa’s slow speed turning defence into attack.

Cairney back on his feet

59: Cairney gingerly gets back to his feet and is helped off the pitch with his arm across his shoulder. After further work on the touchline, the referee waves him back onto the field as play restarts

Jedinak finally booked

57: Ayite concedes a free kick on the right wing which is crossed by Snodgrass. The lofted delivery is cleared by Cairney who is caught late by Jedinak who is the first player to be cautioned this afternoon. The Fulham captain is down receiving treatment.

Fulham tails are up

PEEP! Second half

One change at the break and it’s for Aston Villa. On-loan Tottenham midfielder Josh Onomah comes on for Elmohamady.

HALF TIME: Fulham 0-0 Villa

Both sides exchanged sights at goal in the early minutes of the game but since then, sights at goal have been hard to find. Fulham look frustrated and Sessegnon can’t get the better of Tuanzebe on the flank, while the middle of the pitch remains very congested. Jokanovic has some work to do at half time if Fulham are to find a way through this stubborn Villa side.

  • Share

Free kick wasted

45: Fulham win a free kick on the right wing as we enter three minutes of added time. A short routine commences from the set piece which give Ayite space in the box but he is crowded out. You feel that crossing the ball into the box may have been a better option there.

  • Share

Possession for Kalas and Ream

44: Ream and Kalas are enjoying plenty of possession at the moment. The Villa midfield is pressing high so getting the ball to the more creative players is proving tricky.

  • Share

Mitrovic offside

36: A promising Fulham move is abruptly ended by the linesman who flags Mitrovic for offside. Sessegnon had got his first real chance to exploit the defence but his pass to Mitrovic was too late and the forward had run offside. That was the first time the home side turned over the ball and quickly broke forward.

  • Share

Chance for Hourihane!

33: Tuanzebe gets beyond Sessegnon in the Fulham half and advances into the penalty area. He pulls back a pass to Hourihane who fires over from the edge of the box. You have to say, after a fast start for Fulham, it’s actually the away side who are starting to look more likely to score.

  • Share

Game settled down

30: The game has settled down now and started to get a little more scrappy. The referee, Harrington, has a word with both benches for getting a little over excited at one or two tackles.

  • Share

Villa clear their lines

23: Sessegnon delivers a low ball from the left which Mitrovic and Ayite both challenge for. Neither player get an useful connection on the ball and Villa clear. His attempts to get the ball leaves Ayite on the deck, and after receiving treatment, he’s back on his feet.

Battle for the centre of the pitch

17: Neither side have are winning the battle in the centre of the pitch. Jedinak is battling hard for Villa and Cairney is orchestrating play in his usual way. The results is an open game, so expect goals. Watch as this finishes 0-0. Sorry.

Villa dangerous on the break

14: Bjarnason picks the ball up in a deep area and drives at the heart of the Fulham defence unchallenged. He enters the box and fires a low drive wide.
