Barnet 3-1 Macclesfield Town

Returning Barnet goalkeeper Graham Stack applauded the great spirit shown by his side in coming back from a goal down to win 3-1 at home to Macclesfield Town.

Two goals in quick succession after the break through Andrew Yiadom and John Akinde, and a stoppage time strike from Curtis Weston ensured victory for the Bees.

Victory means the Bees go eight points clear at the top of the Vanarama Conference, bouncing back after a disappointing defeat to Bristol Rovers in midweek.

Stack was quick to praise the character of his side, turning the game around after conceding just before half-time to an Adriano Moke strike.

Stack, who missed the Rovers game due to injury, tweeted: “Great result today! Brilliant performance, we showed great character after going behind. Unsighted for the goal and gutted to have conceded!”

The Bees conceded in the 41st minute with a powerful 25 yard effort from Macclesfield’s Adriano Moke.

The home-side responded well in the second-half, levelling on 57 minutes through defender Yiadom, who smashed in Charlie MacDonald’s teasing ball.

Just four minutes later, the Bees capitalised on their momentum as Akinde headed in Luisma’s cross from the left to take the lead.

The Bees refused to rest on their laurels as Weston dinked the ball over Rhys Taylor after an inviting through ball from David Hunt to increase the deficit in added time.

Barnet manager Martin Allen stressed the importance of Stack and other senior members of the squad following the win.

He said: “You can’t underestimate the influence Stack, Nurse, MacDonald, Cookie, Curtis, Togwell and Hunty have.

“I have got about seven captains in this team, so sometimes I let them get on with it.”

Allen added: “I thought overall it was our best performance of the season.”

Barnet next travel to seventh-placed Torquay United on December 6 where they will be hoping to extend their lead further still.
