Battling Uxbridge pushed promotion hopefuls Aylesbury all the way this week but came away with nothing but a dirty kit.

The Red Army, confined to mid-table in Division One central, opened against the top-three side but could not hold on for the points.

Uxbridge deserved grabbed the early lead when Ryan Phillips played in Jack Groves, who crashed the ball into the Moles net.

Reds keeper Paul McCarthy made a couple of stunning saves before Aylesbury finally found a way through.

Gareth Price, who had already been foiled once by McCarthy, made no mistake when given a second bite at the cherry. The hosts got a psychological goal on the stroke of half time through Brian Haule, which proved to be the winner as the playing surface became a mud bath in the second period.

AFC Hayes continue to show signs of improvement and were unlucky not to take all three points on Saturday after Ryan Debattista’s opener was cancelled out by Bedford.

Michael Murray and Nico Muir got the goals to give Northwood a comfortable 2-0 away win at Hanwell Town.

Tony Choules’ Red Army side earned a midweek break this week, however Northwood were last night (Tuesday) due to play Barton Rovers and AFC Hayes hosted Royston Town.

This weekend, Uxbridge welcome Bedford Town to Honeycroft while the Woods travel to Chalfont St Peter and the Brook head to Kettering Town.

Meanwhile, in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, Harefield United beat Tring 2-1 on Saturday while Hillingdon Borough lost 3-1 at Sun Sports.
