QPR 2-2 Manchester City

Rangers carved out a precious point - but they deserved all three.

Charlie Austin notched his fourth in three games, and a City own goal twice gave Hoops the lead, only to see them cancelled out by the brilliance of Sergio Aguero.

A moment of controversy ruled out another effort from Austin in the first half, but he and his mates will have no relegation worries if they continue to play like this.

Rs had the ball in the City net twice in a minute - and neither counted.

Austin's header was proverbial mile offside. Fair enough. But the second was the big decision of the game.

Joe Hart slipped and edged the ball forward, then took a second kick at it. It went as far as Austin who drove the ball back past the England keeper's left hand only to see the goal ruled out, presumably because the first kick hadn't left the area.

Goal! Austin scores

It seemed more rule than spirit of the law - if that.

Austin then drew a brilliant stop out Hart from five yards as Rs rained forward like the elements. But his third attempt counted.

Bobby Zamora may have been offside when Vargas slipped the ball through, but Austin wasn't and swivelled to fire into the far corner.

But give someone like Aguero half an inch, and he'll take a goal.

Manchester City's Jesus Navas (R) and QPR's Leroy Fer in action

In one movement he controlled a huge punt, turned Steven Caulker inside out, and shot home inside Rob Green's near post.

Twice in 30 seconds, Austin, who else, hammered a piledriver straight at Hart, who then made a miraculous stop to stop the striker's sidefoot from six yards after Fer returned the rebound.

The deliverer thundered his own effort straight after the break, only to see the effort hit a wall of purple. It hit another City defender for the second Rs goal.

Austin's pinpoint cross was intended for Zamora, but it connected with the shoulder of Martin Demichelis and winged its way past Hart into the corner.

A minute later a suicidal back header from the returning Joey Barton saw Aguero round Green only to see his effort from an angle back heeled brilliantly out of danger by former City defender Richard Dunne.

Like the first City goal came the second. Another lump forward, another brilliant bit of control from Aguero, and he picked his spot despite the attention of three defenders.

It was only a point in the end, but in terms of performance it was a lot more.
