AFC Wimbledon 1–2 Cambridge United

A dream start turned into the stuff of nightmares for AFC Wimbledon this afternoon as Neal Arley's men suffered a first defeat in three games.

The Dons got off to a dream start when Matt Tubbs' header from outside the box found its way into the back of the Cambridge net with barely a minute gone.

Tubbs was off-target with another effort soon after, but Cambridge pulled level on 11 minutes when Ryan Bird put in Kwesi Appiah to force home the equaliser.

Adebayo Akinfenwa, for Wimbledon, and Sullay Kaikai, for Cambridge, were both wasteful with a couple of efforts each, but the killer blow arrived just before the hour mark.

Kaikai crossed for Liam Hughes to head Cambridge into the lead, and the Dons had no answer, leaving them rooted in 16 place in the League Two table.

DONS: Shea, Fuller, Bennett, Barrett, Smith (Kennedy 61), Sutherland (Francomb 64), Bulman, Moore, Rigg (Azeez 65), Tubbs, Akinfenwa. Subs not used: Nicholson, Oakley, McDonnell, Goodman.
