Chelsea 2–0 Leicester City

Chelsea continued their early season momentum against the Premier League's new boys, but they took an hour to open-up Leicester at Stamford Bridge.

A compact and determined Foxes kept the Blues at bay for all of the first half, and then a bit, before some quick thinking and acting from Diego Costa broke the deadlock.

Chelsea's first half had all the hallmarks of last-season's efforts against the Premier League's supposedly lesser sides.

Lots of complicated build-up, and an inability to break through the massed ranks of opposition shirts.

But Blues regrouped for the second half and an Oscar shot from the left flashed across the face of Leicester's goal, rocking the opposite post.

It was followed-up by a Branislav Ivanovic header – which forced a fine diving save from Kasper Schmeichel.

The game started to bubble and froth – after a very flat first half.

The Foxes charged down the other end – a David Nugent one-on-one smothered by Thibaut Courtois.

Up the other end, Andre Schurrle shot over the bar, and Cesc Fabregas saw the City keeper again leap to a fine save.

But Chelsea applied the pressure, and there was only one realistic outcome.

Just after the hour, Ivanovic picked up a ball from Oscar on the right, and bombed into the box and turned two defenders, before squaring to Costa.

The Spaniard looked to have lost it with his first touch, a chesting-down, as Schmeichel dived to save but the poacher's instinct was there, and he fired over the keeper into a bulging net.

Chelsea's confidence grew from there and they looked more assured in possession, and the second looked to be coming for a while.

With just under a quarter of an hour remaining, Fabregas stroked a ball wide to Eden Hazard – largely quiet up until this point.

The Belgian cut inside, rounded two men, and fired home a peach of a goal that sent Stamford Bridge into raptures.

Blues 100 per cent record remains intact, but their first real test comes next weekend – with the trip to Everton.
