Brentford suffered an opening day defeat after Chelsea loanee Kasey Palmer scored with his first touch in senior football to give Huddersfield a 2-1 victory.

The Bees, missing right back Maxime Colin through injury, were second best for much of the game and were under the cosh against a Terriers side with pace, verve and desire.

Elias Kachunga headed the home side into the lead soon after half-time and, only when Dean Smith replaced the ineffective Josh McEachran and Konstantin Kerschbaumer with Nico Yennaris and Sam Saunders, did the Bees look threatening.

Indeed it was Yennaris, who capitalised on some slack Huddersfield defending, who equalised as he slotted his shot under Danny Ward to level the scores.

David Wagner responded with a substitution of his own, bringing on Palmer and he benefited after the impressive Rajiv Van La Parra gave the visiting defence a headache. His shot was parried by Daniel Bentley into the path of Palmer.

Yennaris had a chance to level the scores in the dying moments of the game but volleyed over the bar.
