Chelsea 3-1 Sunderland

Chelsea came back from a goal down thanks to a brace from Loic Remy and a Diego Costa penalty - but this celebration was more about departing heroes.

There was an amazing farewell for Didier Drogba when he got chaired off the pitch by his team-mates barely half an hour into the match.

The club favourite had entered the pitch with his family, he left it somewhat prematurely in glory like an FA Cup winning captain of the past.

The other likely departure, was far busier, far longer.

Petr Cech was called to push away a Patrick van Aanholt drive early doors, and this after he beat away a Seb Larsson free-kick.

Branislav Ivanovic stormed into the box to be upended by Larsson, but got no penalty for his tumble.

What Chelsea got as balloons, banners and bonhomie made the Bridge more of a carnival that a football clash, was to go a goal behind.

Dozy defending from Adam Johnson's corner was met by the forehead of Steven Fletcher at the back post for 0-1.

Blues woke up, and when Juan Cuadrado was downed by John O’Shea the only question was whether it was inside the box.

Chelsea's Petr Cech in action

It was, according to Lee Mason and Diego Costa steered the ball home.

Petr Cech was required to plunge low to his left to push past a Jack Rodwell effort on 55 minutes.

Eden Hazard’s scything run, and another smart pass from the Belgian, this time to sub Loic Remy saw the Frenchman send a cutting-edge shot past Mannone from 22 yards.

Remy rounded it all off with a cute effort at the near post.

It was a great day, but tinged with a touch of sadness at what is surely the final appearances for two fantastic club servants.
