Huddersfield Town 2-1 Brentford

Battling Brentford’s incredible winning streak came to an end at Huddersfield Town this afternoon.

The Bees had won all of their games in November to charge towards the top of the Championship but they ran out of steam in Yorkshire to begin December with a 2-1 loss.

Mark Warburton kept faith with the side that thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 last week while Chris Powell made two changes to his Huddersfield starting XI.

Alan Judge, fresh from grabbing his first of the season in that win over Wolves, looked lively in the early stages and twice went close with efforts.

Nakhi Wells then fashioned the first opening for the hosts and skimmed one past the post to send a warning sign to the visitors.

Judge remained positive, a real bundle of energy, and the Irishman forced Alex Smithies into an eye-catching reflex save to keep the Bees on the front foot.

You felt the away side would live to regret those early chances, with Jonathan Douglas having also nodded wide, and those fears were realised midway through the first half.

Wells drifted into the channel and fired a low cross into the danger zone and allowed a lurking Sean Scannell to slam the ball home at the fire post.

Alex Pritchard tried his luck with a couple of piledrivers as the half drew to a close, however the Bees went in a goal behind at the interval.

Three minutes after the restart and they found themselves two down as Jack Robinson’s teasing cross was turned into his own net by a helpless Jake Bidwell.

Discussions start immediately on the touchline and Waburton decided to throw on Stuart Dallas, who was followed onto the field by Tommy Smith and Nick Proschwitz.

It was the introduction of Smith that provided the spark the Bees needed as one of his first touches was to lay one on a plate for Douglas and the midfielder poked home.

Brentford were back in the game but almost immediately have undid their hard work as David Button had to make one of the saves of the season to deny a relentless Wells.

Huddersfield keeper Smithies was really earning his keep too. Chance after chance went begging, Harlee Dean frustrated twice in a goalmouth scramble.

Bees were banging harder and harder on the door and Douglas, along with Proschwitz, came within a whisker of forcing the ball home in another near miss.

But there was no way through for the visitors and the frustrated travelling Brentford supporters had to make the long trip home empty handed.
