Brentford take on Celta Vigo in their final pre-season friendly of the campaign.

The Bees have gone unbeaten throughout their preparations for the season so far, winning at Aldershot, Oxford United and MK Dons while drawing with Lausanne-Sport and Premier League side Southampton.

And the Spanish side, who were beaten by Manchester United in the last four of last year's Europa League, will be the west London side's final test ahead of the new season.

This time next week on August 5, Dean Smith and his squad will be at Sheffield United for their season opener.

And this afternoon's game will be the Brentford head coach's final chance to assess his squad, in a game situation, before the curtain raiser.

It promises to be an interesting 90 minutes of action and, if you're not at Griffin Park, you can keep up to date with the game with us.

Full time: Brentford 2-1 Celta Vigo

A good workout for the Bees that.

  • Share

Great save from Ivan Villar as Neal Maupay looked to make it 3-1. He had the ball in the net moments later but it was ruled out for a foul.

  • Share

What’s happening elsewhere? Well, it’s a bad day for Ipswich who are 6-1 down at Charlton. Sunderland are also losing 5-0 at home to Celtic.

  • Share

It’s a triple substitution as Ryan Woods, Romaine Sawyers and Neal Maupay come on. Watkins, Vibe and Mokotjo make way

  • Share

This will be an interesting test for Brentford. All, bar three, have played from the start and they’re facing a side who have just gome on. Expect it to be backs to the wall stuff at times but it will provide a useful test for the west Londoners as the season progresses. Neal Maupay is about to come on.

Nico Yennaris replaces Josh McEachran - Celta Vigo make nine changes

  • Share

Scratch that. Wass has now just hit a shot that clears the Brook Road stand and is on its way to Isleworth now.

  • Share

Daniel Wass has a candidate for the worst shot at Griffin Park this season. From eight yards out he manages to get his shot out for a throw in on the six yard box.

GOAL! Brentford 2-1 Celta Vigo (Guidetti 54)

Much like against Southampton, Brentford have lacked their first half intensity here and Celta Vigo have taken advantage. Daniel Wass plays the ball in to John Guidetti and he tucks home.

Celta Vigo make a change as Daniel Wass replaces Brais Mendez

  • Share

Henrik Dalsgaard earns a cheer as he outmuscles Diego Pampin completely to see the ball out for a goal kick. He follows it up with a beautiful slide tackle to stop Pione Sisto from getting through.

  • Share

It’s interesting that Dean Smith has decided to replace Andreas Bjelland by Yoann Barbet - that suggests to me that the Brentford head coach wants to see how they play alongside Egan at Sheffield United

Yoann Barbet replaces Andreas Bjelland at the break. Billy Reeves has given permission to the referee to restart and we’re back underway

HALF TIME: Brentford 2-0 Celta Vigo

That’s the first half. A positive one for Brentford, but concern after Canos is withdrawn with an injury.

  • Share

Indeed, that is the first change for Brentford as the Dutchman comes on. For those interested, it’s raining quite heavily here. One minute of normal time remaining befiore the break and Claudio Beauve fires just over.

  • Share

Canos is down again and I’d suggest that is his afternoon over as Florian Jozefzoon gets kitted off

  • Share

Sergi has been treated, he practically downs a bottle of water and is now able to carry on

  • Share

Sergi Canos is down after he fouled a Celta Vigo defender. He has tried to hobble on but he’s gone down again.

  • Share

Jota raised his arms in celebration but it was muted by the Spaniard’s standards as he showed respect towards his former club.

GOAL! Brentford 2-0 Celta Vigo (Jota 35)

The old free kick strategy of standing in front of the goalkeeper is back. Jota curls it over the wall and into the net against his former club!

  • Share

John Guidetti forces a good save from Dan Bentley after he was played in by Hugo Mallo. Brentford clear the resulting corner and counter through Jota and Ollie Watkins. They play the ball back to Kamo Mokotjo and Josh McEachran, who is fouled. Bees free kick in a dangerous area.

  • Share

Cheeky from Ollie Watkins, very cheeky. He flicks the ball over his head to Jota and his shot is blocked. Brentford playing some fantastic stuff here this afternoon once again.

  • Share

GOAL! Brentford 1-0 Celta Vigo (Lasse Vibe 25)

Josh McEachran brilliantly slides the ball through the Celta Vigo defence for Lasse Vibe to race onto and the Dane coolly slots the ball past Ruben Blanco to give the Bees the lead.

  • Share

Great play from John Egan and Andreas Bjelland, playing keepaway from John Guidetti as Brentford clear the danger.

  • Share

Hugo Mallo has Celta’s first chance of the game after a delightful ball over the top. He seems to mishit it which could have caught Dan Bentley out but he was able to block and gather at the second attempt.

How strong is this Celta Vigo side?

Just three players who started their Europa League semi final second leg at Manchester United are in the XI at Griffin Park today; Hugo Mallo, Pione Sisto and John Guidetti.

Sergio Alvarez, Gustavo Cabral, Facundo Roncaglia, Jonny, Nemanja Radoja, Iago Aspas and Daniel Wass are all on the bench and we should be seeing them in the closing stages of the game.

Here’s the verdict from an expert about the Spanish side.

Josh McEachran causes the Celta Vigo defence problems and they give away a free kick. However, it comes to nothing.

  • Share

That is quite brilliant from Sergi Canos as he leaves Celta Vigo trailing in his wake. He plays a one-two with Kamo Mokotjo before his shot is blocked by a Celta Vigo defender. A brilliant start from the Bees.
