Barnet go into Christmas with high spirits after a 1-0 win over winless Hyde.

Jon Nurse grabbed a second-half winner as the Bees jumped up into the final play-off spot.

There were two changes to the Barnet side that lost 2-1 at home to Grimsby Town in the FA Trophy last Saturday.

Anthony Acheampong and Kieron Cadogan were replaced by Jack Saville and Jake Hyde in the starting line-up.

The first chance of the game fell to defensive stalwart David Stephens, whose angled header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the inspired Lawrence Vigouroux.

Luisma Villa had another chance after 20 minutes when his low shot, when one-on-one, was saved by the imperious Vigouroux in the Hyde goal.

Nurse missed a glorious chance five minutes later, skying his lob over the bar with the goal unguarded.

After 38 minutes, the Bees had another fantastic chance to score.

With only the goalkeeper to beat, Byrne was denied, yet again, with the on-loan Chilean youth international spreading his legs to deny him.

The second-half started with Hyde coming mightily close to taking a surprise lead.

Louis Almond's long-range half-volley was met by a fantastic Graham Stack reaction save, and he had to be alert to collect the ball after it looped down.

After a flurry of missed opportunities, Barnet finally took the lead just before the hour mark.

Nurse scored his second goal of the season, slotting the ball home after a good cross by the impressive Byrne.

The Christmas cheer was slightly dampened by Keanu Marsh-Brown's second-half booking, with the winger missing Barnet's crunch Boxing Day clash at home to fellow promotion contenders Luton Town.
