Barnet 2-0 Bristol Rovers

Barnet boss Martin Allen says there is more to come from his side after they beat title favourites Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night.

The Bees made it two wins from two as goals from John Akinde and Charlie MacDonald secured a 2-0 victory.

And Allen, who named an unchanged side following the opening day 5-0 win at Chester was pleased with the result.

“It was a good performance," he said. "I think that they are the bookmakers’ favourites to go straight up, and bookmakers don’t often get it very wrong.

"I thought we played very well, were very solid, with another clean sheet and a lot of good performances.”

"They played some nice football. We do try and play, we try and mix up the games to see if we can get the best out of both ways of playing.

"We are working on it as we’ve only just come together but two clean sheets, seven goals and six points is a good response so far I’d say.”

Barnet made the breakthrough midway through the first half when skipper MacDonald gently chested the ball down from the right hand touchline before threading a pass through to Akinde, who coolly slotted his first goal for the Bees over Rovers keeper Will Puddy.

The lead was doubled three minutes before the break as Puddy could only parry a low shot from Mauro Vilhete and into the path of MacDonald for his second goal of the season.

David Stephens came close to adding a third in the second half but his header was cleared off the line.

The result keeps Barnet top of the Conference Premier table ahead of the visit of Lincoln City on Saturday.
