Neal Ardley described Lyle Taylor’s equaliser at Northampton as “breathtaking” after AFC Wimbledon made it 10 League Two games unbeaten on the road.

The Dons pushed the league leaders all the way at Sixfields and left with a share of the spoils thanks to Taylor’s fabulous strike just after the hour mark.

Chris Wilder’s Cobblers are the team to beat in the division after winning 10 straight games before finally being held by Hartlepool United on Saturday.

They were held again by Wimbledon and manager Ardley saluted his in-form striker after he cancelled out John-Joe O’Toole’s opener to earn a point for the visitors.

“Lyle Taylor’s goal was breathtaking,” Ardley told Dons Player. “We had that good spell when Robbo (Paul Robinson) hit the post and the keeper made a save.

“If we could have scored again at that point we would have had something to hang onto, but unfortunately that spell came and went.

“We knew that a team like Northampton with all the talent they have got would come back at us.

Boss: AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley looks on

“We had to defend for our lives and we did that well too. Chris Wilder and me looked at each other at one point and said ‘what a game’.

“That was as entertaining a game in League 2 as I have been a part of. Neither side really deserved to lose it.

“When you set your team up that is what you want to see. We had great attacking play, loads of pace going forward, and the boys gave everything.

“We really had a go at the best team in the league. It’s only a point, but there’s a lot of teams who have come here and got nothing.”

The games keep coming for the play-off chasing Dons and this weekend they are preparing for the visit of fellow promotion hopefuls Accrington Stanley.

Four points separate the two sides going into Saturday’s fixture at Kingsmeadow with Stanley in fourth and Wimbledon sitting just outside the top seven.
