League One player of the year Adam Forshaw is on course to be ready for the start of Brentford's new season in the Championship.

The 22 year old midfielder underwent surgery back in April on a long standing ankle injury which he had been playing through since the turn of the year.

Although Forshaw was missing from Brentford's opening summer friendly at Boreham Wood on Thursday night, Bees boss Mark Warburton expects him to play a part later in pre-season.

Warburton said: “Adam is on track following his surgery. The plan is to phase him back in for the last two of three games of pre-season.”

Former Everton youngster Forshaw has attracted interest from other clubs, but has two years remaining on his Brentford contract.

He told Get West London earlier this month: "My aim was promotion with Brentford and we achieved that. I've still got two more years left on my contract and am really happy here."
