Harefield United 1 Saffron Walden Town 1

HAREFIELD lived to fight another day as Tom Kirk's header forced a replay in a tie which saw the Hares score both goals.

A first half of probing by both teams saw the Hares playing the better football, and putting Saffron under pressure for most of the half, but the end result was not good enough to really trouble their opponents.

However, it was Michaels Livesey who did the most to unsettle Saffron and his runs put their defence under pressure.

Chances were created but finishing was not the Hares strong point. At times the build up play was good but Anthony Choat in the Saffron goal was rarely troubled.

In the first 45 minutes he had just one save to make and although Adam Willis and Paul Haynes supplied some good crosses the Hares attack failed to capitalise on them.

Good defending was also the order of the day with Greg Strong and Tommy Butchart showing the way for Saffron Walden.

The sting was taken out of the Hares attack when Livesey went off injured on 30 minutes, to be replaced by Ben Cowen.

At the other end Charlie Miller had little to do and again the Hares defence kept the visitors attack at bay.

The second half followed the same pattern with the Hares looking for the winner but it was Saffron who took the lead.

A 51st minute free kick was knocked in by Strong and it found the head of Hares defender Liam Hind who glanced it past Miller for a classic own goal.

The rest of the half saw the Hares pushing for the equaliser with both Adam Willis and Joe Kelly overlapping to put some dangerous crosses in as some desperate defending kept the Hares out.

However, a cross from Willis finally found the head of Kirk on 60 minutes and Hares were back on level terms.

The home side now upped the pace and were in control but again stout defending meant they could not force the winner despite making several late changes and the teams will replay tonight (Wednesday).
