Ian Holloway believes QPR fans lacked patience with Chris Ramsey because he was not a big name.

Ramsey took charge in February on a temporary basis until the end of the season, when he was awarded the permanent role despite failing to save Rangers from Premier League relegation.

But the former QPR man was in his first Football League job, which left fans anxious about his suitability for the long-term.

And Holloway believes that a more experienced manager, one in the mould of the new interim boss Neil Warnock, would have earned more time in the position.

The former Blackpool and Crystal Palace boss said: “The hardest thing for Chris Ramsey was whether the supporters thought he was ready and experienced enough to take on their club.

Sacked: Chris Ramsey

"Was he experienced enough for the support to stick with him when things weren't going right?

"Chris didn't deserve it but that's football and as a big QPR supporter, having played for them and managed them, I am more than happy with Neil at the helm at the moment.”

Ramsey managed to win just nine of 32 games in charge of the Loftus Road side, and lost derby clashes against both Fulham and Brentford.

And it means that owner Tony Fernandes will have his work cut out over the international break as the club seeks to appoint a new manager as soon as possible.

Paul Lambert, Nigel Pearson and recently departed Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood have been heavily linked with the role, although the former is believed to be set for Blackburn Rovers.
