Oliver Palmer scored Whitton Wanderers U8 Eagles' first ever goal in the first minute of their first ever game on Sunday.

Sadly, with just a minute remaining, opponents Mitcham Park Juniors forced an equaliser, and Whitton had to share the spoils.

Jackson Lewis-Cole put in some perfect set pieces for the Eagles, while defenders Thomas Madigan and Oscar Gordon held firm, with help from some great saves by Edwardo Wanli. Joseph Hayward and Harry Perez provided fresh impetus late on.

Party time: Whitton Wanderers U7s, U8s and U9s at the Murray Park centenary celebrations

Meanwhile, the U9s opened their season with a 5-0 win over Junior Bees at Whitton Park, with Lucas Keating bagging a brace and further goals coming from Connor Flaherty, Keanen Delaney and Charlie Power.

The club also took part in the weekend's Murray Park centenary celebrations, playing showcase matches at an event which more than 1,000 people attended.

However, Junior Bees gained revenge for the U9s' win over them by beating Whitton's U16s 4-3 after showing great spirit to come back from 3-1 down.

Two goals from Dean Manchand and one each from Conrad Turnbull and Mohammed Barake sealed a fantastic fightback.
