Cauley Woodrow paid tribute to Fulham's academy staff after eight of their starting XI in the 3-2 win at Leyton Orient came through the ranks at Craven Cottage.

Jesse Joronen, Woodrow, Lasse Vigen Christensen, Ryan Sessegnon, Sean Kavanagh, Dennis Adeniran who scored in the win, Lucas De La Torre and Adetayo Edun all started at the Matchroom Stadium on Tuesday as the Whites reached the second round of the EFL Cup.

The club have also seen players such as Moussa Dembele, who was so impressive last season, Emerson Hyndman and Patrick Roberts leave the club for Premier League sides.

And Woodrow was full of praise for the club's youth system.

He said: “It's a credit to the academy staff and the management staff giving us young players the opportunity.

“They'll give us a chance to play. It's a credit that all of us young boys were playing against Leyton Orient.

Departed: Moussa Dembele

He added: “Moussa has gone on now as has Emerson (Hyndman) and Patrick Roberts. Lasse (Vigen Christensen), Sean Kavanagh, myself and all the young boys have come through the system, signing around 16 years old.

“If you get the opportunities you can do well so hopefully more can come up and do as well as we have.”

Woodrow, himself, hopes his two goals at Orient will send a message to Jokanovic that he has the ability to fill the shoes left by Ross McCormack and Dembele after their summer departures to Aston Villa and Celtic respectively.

He explained: “The last two years I've not played regularly and I haven't got many games in a row. I want to get on the scoresheet and help the club as much as I can.

“Moussa and Ross going was a great loss to the club as they scored a lot of goals but it gives opportunities to me and Matty who haven't played as much to show what we can do.

“I didn't get on last week, which was disappointing for me. I wanted to show what I could do and I've done that.”
