Dean Smith felt Brentford's 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers was a fair result and credited Wolves as the best side the Bees have played all season.

Both sides had chances to win it but, unlike previous games where the west Londoners have dominated, the contest, as a whole was more even.

And Smith felt his side were worthy of a point after what was an entertaining draw.

He said: “I thought it was a fair result against the best team we've come across so far this season. Our performances have been good and we've not got the points tally such has been the one sided nature of the game.

“We gave them problems and they gave us problems. We've not scored when we've been on top and you'd put your house on Jota scoring when he hit the post.”

He added: “They've got really good players and they defend with a back three and two in front of them and attack with two wingers and three forwards.

“We knew it'd be tough defensively so it was pleasing to get a clean sheet. In the second half we were more dominant. It's a point gained I think today.”

The Bees had a lucky escape in the final minute when Nico Yennaris' free kick hit the wall and, in a one on three situation, Ryan Woods managed to spring the offside trap and protect the point.

Smith commented: “You knew we'd have a problem if we hit the wall but Ryan Woods made a great decision to step up and play them offside.

“Andreas Bjelland made a great header. Neal Maupay had a super chance which he scuffed but his work rate was excellent. We came out of it unbeaten and unscathed.

“The players have to take responsibility and make good decisions out on the pitch. I thought it was an isolated incident in a good performance. We'll make sure that's something will happen again.”
