DAVID Howell paid tribute to emergency goalkeeper Richard Wilmot after he kept a clean sheet to help extend Harrow's unbeaten league run to four games.

Wilmot was signed from Hitchin Town on a dual registration after Harrow's number one shot stopper Andray Baptiste was struck down with chicken pox on Wednesday.

Wilmot was plunged straight into the action at Earlsmead and didn't disap-point.

Borough manager Howell said: "Richard was at Hendon and they released him and he ended up at Potters Bar. He played for them against our reserves recently and I enquired about him. He then signed for Hitchin and they were happy for us to sign him on a dual registration basis, where he can provide cover for both clubs.

"He kept a clean sheet and did every-thing I asked of him. He has a great presence and plenty of experience."

Wilmot, 39, and Howell were teammates at Stevenage Borough and the Harrow boss says his old friend's profession off the pitch makes him a daunting prospect on it.

"He is involved with the police," added Howell with an air of mystery.

With Simon Dahl taking a whack on the knee in training, his place went to fit again captain Danny Leech, who renewed his central defensive partnership with Tobi Jinadu.

Dean Fenton came in for the benched Jonathan Constant.

The hosts flew out of the traps and Gary Noel should have done better from Dorian Smith's cross.

Wilmot eased any nerves with a confident catch as the game started in surprisingly open fashion.

Dewayne Clarke forced King into a decent save while Wilmot denied McDonald at the other end. Noel then wasted another chance to continue his purple patch, firing over when he perhaps should have shot first time from Lee Hall's low centre.

Tooting shut up shop in the second half, reducing Harrow to shots from distance before enjoying their best spell of the game.

Paul Vines forced Wilmot into another good save before McDonald was left scratching his head after pulling a shot wide in acres of space.

Fenton then headed against the bar for Harrow before Howell introduced Jerome Hall and Constant to proceedings, the pair replacing Kwasi Frempong and Fenton respectively.

The change almost proved a master-stroke but Constant's fierce effort found the wrong side of the post.

Wilmot then beat Vines to the ball at the death with Tooting's top scorer booked for following through on Harrow's latest recruit.
