Willian is expected to return to the Chelsea squad for Saturday’s visit of Burnley.

The Brazilian was a surprise absentee from the side that beat Watford at Vicarage Road last weekend and also missed the midweek League Cup win over Bristol Rovers.

He has been struggling with a calf problem but was working in the pool earlier this week and took part in training with the rest of the group at Cobham on Thursday.

Willian trained again on Friday with no adverse reaction but Blues manager Antonio Conte will wait until the morning before settling on his team to face the Clarets.

Conte said: “Burnley is a team who are very solid in defensive situation and are always ready to counter-attack with two very good forwards.

“We must pay attention when we are attacking because they are always ready to counter.

“This is the English league. Every game is very tough. Every game you must face with great attention.

“If you don’t have the right attention, anything can happen. We saw this in the cup against Bristol. We must pay great attention, always.”

Pedro has earned a place in the side in the absence of Willian but there is unlikely to be room for both players in the starting XI if the pair are both in the squad.
