Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan is hopeful of agreeing a deal with Bees manager Uwe Rosler within the next 24 hours.

The Latics have been on the lookout for a new boss since Owen Coyle left by mutual consent on Monday following a run of poor results.

Wigan asked for permission to speak to Rosler earlier today, and Whelan reckons the German could be in the DW Stadium hotseat by the weekend.

He told Sportsmail:"'We were given permission quite quickly by Brentford. They conducted themselves very well.

Confident: Dave Whelan hopes to appoint Rosler within the next 24 hours

"I'm confident of landing him and hopeful that we can get this done and dusted on Friday morning. I'm not hanging around.

"Getting Uwe in is my sole intention at the moment. He is a good young manager whose progression I've followed closely."

The Bees are entitled to compensation for Rosler as the 45-year-old is under contract until 2015.

And Whelan added: "I don't really know the exact amount of compensation but would estimate at around £200,000."
