Brentford have confirmed they have granted permission to Wigan Athletic to talk to Uwe Rosler about the vacant manager's post at the DW Stadium.

Latics owner Dave Whelan revealed on Thursday night that he hoped to wrap up a deal for the 45-year-old German in the next 24 hours.

And the Bees have now confirmed the Championship club have been given the go-ahead to speak to Rosler about becoming Owen Coyle's successor.

A club statement said: "Wigan Athletic have approached Brentford Football Club to speak to manager Uwe Rösler concerning their managerial vacancy.

"The club had an approach this afternoon and, reluctantly, permission has been granted.

"Wigan have agreed to meet the compensation figure in Uwe’s contract and will be able to speak to him."
