It's been a quiet transfer window in west London so far with neither Brentford nor Fulham making a fresh signing in January but what's gone on elsewhere?

We’ll be halfway through the January window after this weekend’s round of Championship fixtures and the window will start heating up as the clock ticks down to 11pm on January 31.

And the journalists covering the promotion contenders have each provided an update on their club’s business in what usually an eventful month

They were asked two questions: What transfer window business has your club done so far? and What business do you expect to do by the time the window closes?

You can see the answers below.

1st Wolverhampton Wanderers

Rafa Mir

Question 1: What transfer window business has your club done so far?

Wolves have already caused a stir with the signing of young Valancia forward Rafa Mir. Signed for a mere £1.5m on a four year-deal, the Spaniard rejected FOUR bids from Real Madrid to join the club.

The opportunity at the age of 20 to join the Molineux revolution proved a bigger draw than trying to impress in the reserves of the Spanish giants. That says a lot about the current situation at the club, big European players are being linked with a move to the club and nobody even bats an eyelid when they read the news.

A few players have left on loan and there will be exits for the likes of Michael Zyro and Ben Marshall as Santo looks to balance the books.

The most noticeable exit so far has been Jack Price, a favourite among the supporters and a Wolves player for 18 years.

In: Rafa Mir (Valencia)

Out: Jack Price (Colorado Rapids), Connor Ronan (Portsmouth, loan), Sylvain Deslandes (Portsmouth, loan), Prince Oniangue (Angers, loan), Lee Evans (Sheffield United), Donovan Wilson (Port Vale, loan)

Question 2: What business do you expect to do by the time the window closes?

I don’t see too many new faces, Nuno Santo is a very shrewd operator and wants to protect the winning balance of his team.

I can see cover coming in at right-back and there is likely to be another striker, possibly Lewis Grabban. Midfielders have been linked from abroad and there is an outside chance of a deal for another up and coming central midfielder if he fits the blueprint for the Premier League plans.

2nd Derby County

DERBY, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 08: Gary Rowett manager of Derby County looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Hull City at iPro Stadium on September 8, 2017 in Derby, England. (Photo by Nathan Stirk/Getty Images)

Q1: The only movement so far has seen young players leave. Derby sit second in the Championship and they are on a run of only two defeats in 19 league games that has lifted them from 15th. There is not too much wrong with the team and the balancing act facing manager Gary Rowett is: does he look to strengthen from a position of strength with one or two players or does that risk disrupting what is currently working?

In: None

Out: Farrend Rawson (Forest Green Rovers), Max Lowe (Shrewsbury Town, loan), Charles Vernam (Grimsby Town, loan), Offrande Zanzala (Accrington, loan), Emil Jakobsen (VVV Venlo, loan).

Q2: Derby must first trim their top-heavy squad before any new faces can arrive, and this has been the consistent message from manager Gary Rowett. There are a number of players who are surplus to requirements - players like Darren Bent, Jason Shackell and Ikechi Anya do not make the 18 on match days. Other players have been restricted in their number of starts - Chris Martin has made only five starts in the League, Marcus Olsson seven and Alex Pearce none. Outgoings are expected to outweigh incomings.

3rd Cardiff City

Yanic Wildschut

Q1: Cardiff confirmed earlier this month that Liam Feeney’s loan period from Blackburn has been extended until the end of the season while youngsters Ciaron Brown and Ogo Obi look set to join the Under-23 side.

In: Liam Feeney (Blackburn, loan), Yanic Wildschut (Norwich, loan)

Out: None

Q2: Neil Warnock is determined to add a striker and a central midfielder to his ranks this month, with Bolton man Gary Madine being the main target for the former although it remains unclear who the Bluebirds are targeting for the latter. Norwich winger Yanic Wildschut has made the move to South Wales this month. As far as outgoings are concerned, Anthony Pilkington could well depart while Aron Gunnarsson is out of contract at the end of the season and has admitted he does not want to play Championship football next season, but given his influence in the side - and the fact he is currently sidelined with an ankle injury - a move away from the Welsh capital this month appears unlikely unless a substantial bid comes in.

4th Bristol City

Ryan Kent

Q1: Bristol City have moved fairly quickly to wrap up the signings of two England youth players. Liam Walsh joins permanently from Everton after a period on loan at Birmingham earlier this season. Meanwhile, winger Ryan Kent has joined the Robins on loan from Liverpool after a spell in the Bundesliga didn’t work out at Freiburg.

In: Liam Walsh (Everton), Ryan Kent (Liverpool, loan)

Out: Jonathan Leko (West Brom).

Q2: Both Lee Johnson and Dean Holden have confirmed previously that ideally they would like one more player to come in during this window. And that could be a defender depending on outgoings. Plenty of strikers have been linked but with Milan Djuric and Famara Diedhiou both set to return from injury, City will be well catered for there by the end of the month.

5th Aston Villa

Steve Bruce with a Villa fan

Q1: Nothing yet. And don’t expect too much to happen either. Villa are short on cash and are only looking at loan deals.

In: None

Out: None

Q2: Villa want a new striker and are currently checking out a number of loan options. Leicester’s Leo Ulloa is top of the list and Burnley’s Nahki Wells has also been considered as well as a number of other options.

Villa may also look for a creative midfielder. Liverpool’s Marko Grujic could be an option, although he has Premier League interest. Tommy Elphick wants regular football and could leave and youngsters Aaron Tshibola and Easah Suliman will also be on the move.

Most deals are likely to go to the wire.

Gregg Evans, Birmingham Mail

6th Leeds United

Juan Mata tangles with Laurens De Bock

Q1: Leeds have been busier than many anticipated so far, with as many as four faces through the door at Elland Road. Just one of them is expected to play a first-team role this season, however, with Laurens de Bock’s arrival from Club Brugge helping to ease a potential defensive crisis. Aapo Halme is very much one for the future and the same applies to Oliver Sarkic, who is a signing for the Under-23s, while there is disappointment from fans that Japanese international and World Cup hopeful Yosuke Ideguchi has been sent immediately out on loan to Cultural Leonesa in Spain. Leeds insist he requires an adjustment period in European football and believe the move for the rest of the season will ready him for the rigours of Championship football next season.

In: Yosuke Ideguchi (Gamba Osaka), Laurens De Bock (undisclosed, Club Brugge), Aapo Halme (HJK Helsinki), Oliver Sarkic (Benfica)

Out: Yosuke Ideguchi (Cultural Leonesa, loan)

Q2: I think they will look to bring in a striker before the window closes.

Leeds seem content with their defensive options and, despite calls in some sections for a new goalkeeper, Thomas Christiansen is happy with his options between the sticks. They may yet look to reinforce their midfield options too, particularly if anyone leaves the club.

In terms of outgoings, expect Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s loan from Manchester United to be cut short and don’t rule out Mateusz Klich heading out, given his lack of game time.

Tom Marshall-Bailey, LeedsLive

7th Sheffield United

Ryan Leonard

Q1: Despite concerns about the size of his transfer budget, Chris Wilder has moved quickly to strengthen his squad with Ryan Leonard and Lee Evans completing permanent transfers from Southend and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively while Manchester United’s James Wilson has arrived on loan. It’s part of his bid to increase the depth of options at the club’s disposal after highlighting this as an area of weakness earlier this season.

In: Ryan Leonard (Southend), Lee Evans (Wolves), James Wilson (Manchester United, loan).

Out: Ben Whiteman (Doncaster Rovers), James Hanson (Bury, loan).

Q2: I suspect United won’t do much more, if any business, in the window from now on. In part, this is due to the financial constraints they are working under following six seasons in League One but also, after handing new contracts to a series of key players, because they do not want to upset the composition and character of their squad. The key now will be ensuring their best performers remain at Bramall Lane should rivals clubs make an approach. David Brooks, their young Wales international, has attracted a lot of interest but was recently diagnosed with glandular fever which, despite not being good for him, could be timely for United!

James Shield, Sheffield Star

8th Middlesbrough

West Bromwich Albion v Hull City. Manager Tony Pulis Stock pic.

Q1: The arrival of Tony Pulis has scuppered any transfer plans his predecessor Gary Monk had put in place in December. The new manager is busy getting know more about the players he’s inherited to discover what they offer on the pitch. So far Boro have only been allowing fringe squad players to move out on loan.

In: None

Out: Lewis Wing (Yeovil, loan), Connor Ripley (Bury, loan), Alex Pattison (York, loan), Connor Roberts (return to Swansea), Callum Johnson (Accrington)

Q2: Boro may bring in one or two players but fans shouldn’t expect major incomings after a massive summer spending spree. With Fabio wanting to leave, a left-back could be targeted and a mobile attacking midfielder would be desirable. Ashley Fletcher could leave on loan while Fabio will go if a buying club matches Boro’s valuation. One of Adam Forshaw and Adam Clayton could also be on the move.

Philip Tallentire, Middlesbrough Gazette

9th Preston

Norwich City manager Alex Neil

Q1: Preston boss Alex Neil is keen to add to his squad further after the arrivals of Louis Moult, Billy Bodin while Connor Simpson, a young striker from Hartlepool, falls very much into the ‘one for the future’ category.

In: Louis Moult (Motherwell), Billy Bodin (Bristol Rovers), Connor Simson (Hartlepool)

Out: Ben Pringle (Oldham loan).

Q2: Preston are on the look-out for a central midfielder to play alongside and back-up Ben Pearson. They have been linked with Oxford’s Ryan Ledson. In terms of departures, Jordan Hugill continues to be linked with various Championship clubs. However, it would take huge money to get him out. Eoin Doyle, who spent the first-half of the season on loan at Oldham, could move again once he has recovered from illness.

Dave Seddon, Preston Post

10th Fulham

Q1: Transfer window business so far? Absolutely none. Slavisa Jokanovic launched a furious tirade last week about the lack of business being done, claiming the recruitment department felt the squad were strong enough despite his thoughts that they were not. Reports claimed the side were close to signing Matt Targett from Southampton on loan, but so far no business has been done.

In: None

Out: Elijah Adebayo (loan to Cheletenham)

Q2: I don’t think there will be any major business done - Fulham recruited heavily in the summer with 11 players coming into the side. The club will only make a move in this window if the right option becomes available at the right price. Their refusal to sell Ryan Sessegnon will most likely be their biggest achievement in this window.

Ryan O’Donovan, Getwestlondon

11th Brentford

Emiliano Marcondes

Q1: Brentford’s only new player so far is Denmark Under-21 striker Emiliano Marcondes, who agreed a deal in July but didn’t arrive until January.

In: Emiliano Marcondes (Nordsjaelland)

Out: None

Q2: A good window for Brentford would probably be no ins and no outs. The people within the club will be keen to keep what they’ve got. Birmingham have been linked with Ryan Woods while Danish pair Lasse Vibe and Andreas Bjelland are out of contract in the summer and the club may be tempted to cash in.

Tom Moore, Getwestlondon

12th Ipswich Town

Mick McCarthy

Q1: Manager Mick McCarthy has once again hinted he will once again be operating in the free transfer and loan market during this window. The only addition so far is that of young Irish striker Aaron Drinan from Waterford, with parallels already drawn between him and former Ipswich striker Daryl Murphy. But it’s other areas of the pitch, like their injury-hit midfield and thin central defence, which really need addressing.

In: Aaron Drinan (Waterford, nominal)

Out: Kieffer Moore (Barnsley, £750,000) Danny Rowe (Lincoln, loan)

Q2: McCarthy will certainly be looking for additions, with Connor Goldson at Brighton one they have asked about, but it’s talk of outgoings that has dominated the window so far. Kieffer Moore has already been sold following League One bun fight, while Bartosz Bialkowski, Tommy Smith and David McGoldrick have all been linked with moves away. If those materialise and how they are replaced will give a good indication of what the future holds at Portman Road.
