Wealdstone have been dealt a blow with the news that Scott McCubbin will miss the start of the new season.

McCubbin, who can play in midfield or at full-back, wanted to be a part of the Stones’ Conference South adventure in 2014-15.

The ex-Burton ace has experience of Conference level football during his time with Burton and wanted another taste of the game at that level.

However, work commitments have thrown a spanner in the works as McCubbin cannot commit to football at Grosvenor Vale until the turn of the year.

Eyes on the prize: Jack Mills has signed for the Stones to ease the loss of McCubbin

He is undertaking a big project at West Ham United as they prepare to move into the Olympic Stadium and will be unavailable for selection.

Stones boss Gordon Bartlett confirmed: “We look like losing Scott until Christmas. He’s got a marketing job at West Ham as they prepare to move into the Olympic Stadium.

“It will involve a lot of work and it will be very time consuming. There is a fair amount of weekends involved in it and he needs to concentrate on that.”

The blow of losing McCubbin until at least Christmas has been softened by the capture of Jack Mills this week.

And there was more good news for Wealdstone fans this morning as last season’s top marksman Scott McGleish penned a new one-year deal.

The vastly experienced forward banged in 28 goals last term to help Bartlett’s boys lift the Ryman Premier title.
