Harry Redknapp couldn’t see a QPR goal coming from anywhere before Bobby Zamora netted a last-gasp winner to seal promotion.

The striker came off the bench to play the role of super-sub and break Derby County hearts with a stunning finish at Wembley.

Rangers had been fighting tooth and nail just to stay in the game following Gary O’Neil’s second-half dismissal for denying Johnny Russell a goalscoring opportunity.

It looked as though we would head into extra-time, however former Spurs man Zamora had other ideas and delighted his manager with his late heroics.

Promoted: QPR left it late but they will be playing Premier League football next season

"It was a fantastic finish," Redknapp said. "We were maybe trying to take the game to penalties with a draw and were hanging on for our lives.

"It was a fantastic goal to win the game and I couldn't be more pleased.

"I would be a liar if I said I thought I would see us scoring. They had 11 men, were probing us and we were hanging on.

"That was a one off where you stand on the touchline, hanging on for grim death and get a goal like that.

"I want to do it for the people here, the owners and the players. They are fantastic people."

The odds were certainly stacked against the R’s following the red card and Redknapp felt there were enough covering defenders to warrant only a caution.

Seeing red: Gary O'Neil was sent off in the second period

"I thought he wasn't the last man, I thought there was another defender behind him," the Rangers boss added.

"I thought he would get a yellow but that's life. It was a bit cynical I suppose so I can't have too many complaints.

I thought we were bang in trouble but we showed great character and it was amazing."
