AFC INTERMEDIATE CUP

Wembley Park Reserves 7

East Barnet Reserves 8

WEMBLEY Park Reserves were taught a valuable lesson by East Barnet Reserves in a thrilling AFC Intermediate Cup clash.

Park were leading 7-6 with less than 10 minutes to go but continued with their cavalier approach and were punished by the Bees as they claimed an 8-7 victory.

Mark Taylor got Wembley off to a dream start by firing them into a two-goal lead inside the opening 10 minutes.

But this was a game with more twists and turns than a snake on a roller-coaster in hurricane season and by the half-time interval the score was deadlocked at 3-3.

East Barnet were lethal in the air and scored three times from set-pieces in the second half and stormed into a 6-5 lead as full-time approached.

However, Taylor popped up to smash home a dramatic equaliser with the very last kick to force an additional 30 minutes.

Park, lacking substitutes due to injuries, threw on secretary Zayid Randeree (pictured) and he rolled back the years with an assist for Taylor to slotted home his fifth.

Now leading 7-6, Wembley should have played it safe, but a crazy final few moments saw East Barnet run riot to steal the win.

Wembley’s first-team also suffered disappointment as they crashed out of the Middlesex County League Senior Cup following a heavy defeat to West Essex.

Keeper Daniel Byers picked the ball out of the net five times but it could have been more were it not for his keeper’s impressive performance against higher-level opposition.
