Mark Warburton insists he is only focused on helping Brentford succeed than putting one over former club Watford.

The Bees boss left his job at the Hornets' academy after a falling out and admitted prior to the reverse fixture at Vicarage Road that he felt treated 'shabbily' by those working with the club.

But his only focus is keeping the Bees, who are five points behind second-place Derby, in the hunt for automatic promotion.

He said: “There is no bad feeling. It was a long time ago and my only focus is whether Brentford can deliver the best performance.

“We're in the mix right now. The challenge is clear to the players and they're a great group.”

Warburton helped set up Harefield Academy and that project is starting to reap rewards with players coming through into the first team, much to the delight of the Bees boss.

Warburton said: “I was looking at their recent squads. There were a lot of familiar faces in George Byers, Bernard Mensah and Tommie Hoban.

“Lloyd Doyley was there when we were there. It's nice to see their young players doing well and senior pros like Lloyd.

“There are a lot of new faces. It's a tough challenge. They're two points behind us. Hopefully we can deliver the right performance.”

Warburton was fuming after Brentford were beaten 2-1 at Vicarage Road in September, especially at Graham Salisbury's decision to penalise James Tarkowski for a foul on Odion Ighalo.

The Bees boss said: “I thought we played well but a poor penalty decision cost us the game. They're a good team with international players.

“They've had seven wins and seven defeats. We know their threat again. We're at home with a great atmosphere under the lights at Griffin Park.”
