ANDRE Villas-Boas has blasted those behind rumours his relationship with Frank Lampard has hit the rocks.

He said their relationship was 'good, fantastic', and followed this up with the barbed comment: “You have to ask the paper who started writing about that relationship.”

There has been paper talk claiming a lack of communication between the manager and midfielder, following a string of games in which Lampard was relegated to the bench.

Villas-Boas denied any rift, as well as dismissing claims that the England man was missing games as a result of a rotation policy.

“First, he's not in and out in rotation,” said the Portuguese. “There is no such thing. We decide on an XI who is strong for any game and that can help us in the strategy to win the game.

“Frank has been decisive in the last couple of games with the timing of his arrival in the box to solve problems in the team. We speak every day. We see each other every day.

The Blues boss also refuted claims that Lampard was not his first choice for big games.

He added: “He started against United, Liverpool and Arsenal, and Valencia away, with tremendous success. His talent is not in doubt. He's always on a fantastic run. We decide what is best for the team.”
