Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen will be desperate to get Kostas Mitroglou up to speed as soon as possible after his goalscoring debut for the reserves this week.

The Greek striker, who is yet to feature for the first team since his January arrival from Olympiakos, stepped up his recovery from a knee injury with a run out for the U21s on Wednesday.

Mitroglou hit the ground running with a first-half brace, including a 30-yard screamer, while young keeper Marek Rodak scored a freak goal in the 5-3 win at Bodymoor Heath.

Meulensteen said: “We’re working hard to get him fit and get him up to speed. That’s why we thought it was a good exercise for him to get some playing minutes with the Under-21s.

"It was a late shout and a late decision but it worked well for him.”
