Fulham scraped into the fourth round of the Capital One Cup with victory over Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night.

Forgotten man Bryan Ruiz set the Cottagers on their way before stand-in skipper Dan Burn added another before the break.

However, James Coppinger's second-half screamer gave the visitors hope before sub Theo Robinson saw a late penalty saved by Marcus Bettinelli as the hosts held on for a 2-1 win.

Caretaker manager Kit Symons insisted it was an easy decision to restore Ruiz to the fold after the midfielder suffered a torrid time under former boss Felix Magath.

Meanwhile, Symons boosted his own chances of landing the job on a full-time basis and revealed he held 'positive' talks with owner Shahid Khan and Mark Lamping earlier this week.
