GLEN Little has put his coaching ambitions on ice to concentrate on Wealdstone’s promotion push.

The former Burnley and Reading winger spoke to the Gazette pre-season about turning out for Gordon Bartlett’s side while starting his badges in preparation for the next phase of his football life.

However, fresh from another afternoon of orchestrating Stones’ midfield in the 2-2 FA Trophy draw with Maidstone on Saturday, Little revealed he is focusing all his energies on on-field matters at The Vale until the end of the season.

And the 37-year-old (pictured right by Steve Foster) even hinted he may be tempted to play on beyond the end of the current campaign.

He said: “I’ve not started the coaching yet. It is quite difficult to get on the course, so I’ll get through this season and then in the summer when I’ve got the free time give it a quick blast.

“Who knows at the end of the season I might want to go on playing again.”

Little’s willingness to extend his career is a mark of how much he is enjoying life with Gordon Bartlett’s side.

He admits the legs might not carry him through every game, especially on non-league’s less hospitable pitches over the winter.

However, like all good old pros, Little knows being in the heat of battle beats training any day.

He added: “The legs are holding up. I’m not so sure about all the midweek games, so  I might have to speak to Gordon about that and it might get more difficult as the winter sets in with the pitches not helping the way I play.

“But I’m still enjoying it and I still look forward to games, especially with the way we play as we are producing some really good football.

“I’m hearing there could be a spell of rain coming, but if the games start piling up it means we’ll be playing and only training once a week and like most people I’ve always been one who wanted to play games rather than train anyway.”
