Robbie Kember won't be Alan Devonshire's last signing for Hampton & Richmond Borough this summer.

Dev signed Eastbourne Borough midfielder Kember, then pledged to make two more additions to his squad before the Blue Square South season kicks off.

Dev ran the rule over ex-QPR and Wycombe centre-back Elliott Braithwaite, former Maidenhead and Dorchester keeper Chico Ramos and Welling playmaker Orlando Smith as their pre-season friendlies got underway this week.

He also cast his eye over youngsters Troy Ferguson and Chris Robinson, as Hampton lost 4-2 to a full-strength West Ham side before beating a weaker Chelsea side 1-0.

Dev said: "I'm looking for two more players to compliment the squad I've got.

"But I'm not in a mad hurry, so I won't sign any of the trialists unless they are better than what I've already got."

Kember's signing, meanwhile, plugged the gap in the Beavers' midfield left by Kelvin MacIntosh, whose work commitments in the Midlands have led to a self-imposed year out of the game.

Ironically, Kember was an unused substitute for the Eastbourne side who inflicted on Devonshire's side the biggest disappointment in their history at last season's Blue Square South playoff final.

However, former England international Devonshire revealed his interest in the 26-year-old addition to his side's engine room goes back further than that fateful day in May.

"I first noticed Robbie Kember when he was playing in the Conference with Crawley, and he impressed me then," he said.

"He's a different style of player to Kelvin, and he'll be a good addition to the squad."
