Tony Fernandes is closing in on the appointment of his ‘dream manager’ for QPR.

Rangers are without a leader in the dugout following Harry Redknapp’s decision to step down.

Redknapp cited health reasons for his resignation at the helm just hours after a farcical end to QPR’s winter transfer window business.

Dream team? Tim Sherwood and Les Ferdinand were expected to reunite at QPR

The Hoops announced a backroom restructure with Les Ferdinand appointed director of football and Chris Ramsey taking caretaker charge of the struggling team.

Ramsey will continue as boss at Sunderland tonight.

Tim Sherwood was the overwhelming favourite to get the Loftus Road job and three candidates were believed to have been considered.

Resignation: Harry Redknapp has gone

Fernandes this evening revealed he is in the final stages of negotiations for Redknapp’s successor and believes the appointment will come as a surprise to some.

He tweeted: “Think I have got my dream manager. Not what anyone thinks. Take a while. Still a bit to go but I'm very happy. Press all wrong.”
