Thibaut Courtois hopes the heartbreak of last season's Champions League final defeat can spur him on to success.

The Chelsea keeper was part of the Atletico Madrid team that fell at the final hurdle in May as Spanish rivals Real Madrid snatched the trophy instead.

However, the Belgian star is hoping to go one better this time around with the Blues.

Safe hands: Courtois is put through his paces in training on Monday

"As a footballer you want to be at the winning end," said Courtois ahead of tomorrow night's Group G clash against Schalke.

"When you see that final you are dreaming to do the same. It is a pity that last year I lost in the final and hopefully this season with Chelsea we can win it again.

"We are doing well and had a great start in the Premier League. We have to take it step by step, we are still in November but hopefully we can win both things."
