Brentford owe Middlesbrough a beating on Friday night according to defender James Tarkowski.

The Bees have suffered three defeats to their play-off opponents so far this season, conceding seven goals and only scoring once in the process.

But the 22-year-old defender believes that he and his side have performed well enough in their last two meetings to warrant a positive result against Boro.

He said: “I’d like to think we owe them a result now because they’ve had three wins out of us so far and we’ll be going there looking to win.

“We need the win on Friday so we’ll have to go there looking positive and playing open football like we do and hopefully get the result we need.

“We often look at performances as well as results and we know we’ve probably performed well enough to get results in the last two games we’ve played against them.

“The game back in January we lost to a penalty and the other night was looking like a draw until the final minute where they scored.

“I don’t think we can look at either of the results too much cause I know we’ve performed well enough on those days to probably get the results.”

Tarkowski and Brentford suffered their heaviest loss of the season at the Riverside in a 4-0 drubbing back in September, but the defender believes that they can turn that into a positive experience.

He added: “I think we can turn that day into a positive, we just knew that we weren’t good enough on the day.

“We underperformed and at the time they were going really well and they did throughout the season but we’ve come quite a distance from then as a team.

“There’s a lot more confidence in us now with performing at big stadiums like that and we’ve improved quite a lot and can take quite a lot of confidence from that.”
