Tammy Abraham was, naturally, delighted after making his Chelsea debut in their 1-1 draw at Liverpool that saw Eden Hazard's wondergoal cancelled out by Christian Benteke's late strike.

The 18-year-old came on for Bertrand Traore with 16 minutes to go in the contest to mark his first appearance for the Blues senior side.

And he produced a promising display, that belied his tender years, and the young striker put it down to being able to block the crowd out.

He said: “Coming on at Liverpool and playing with the players I was with is a great achievement for me.

“(Anfield is a) great stadium, great fans. It is a great achievement to make my debut against Liverpool.

“I think you have to deal with it as soon as you get on the pitch, you have to block everything off and play your game.”

Outgoing manager Guus Hiddink paid tribute to the debutant after the game and is excited by his potential.

The Dutchman said after the game: “I like the guy a lot by his attitude. He's training every now and then with us.

“He's played a lot of games in the youth teams. That's obstructed him a bit from being here with us.

“He's been with us for a week or so. You see his potential. He must grow but that's normal for an 18-year-old.

“He plays physically like a man and it's nice to see those players coming from the academy.”

Abraham looked as if he was going to have a clear shot at goal when he raced through in the dying minutes but Kolo Toure was able to get back to block him.

And the striker believes that he can make an impact for the senior side.

Impressed: Guus Hiddink

He added: “Making my debut at Anfield is going to give me confidence and give me the drive to keep going, keep trying and see what I can achieve.”

Chelsea have faced criticism for allowing over 30 players to leave on loan but, while Abraham is keen to remain at Stamford Bridge, he will do what he can to ensure he's a first team regular one day.

“I hope to be more involved in the first team and play more games,” he explained. “Whatever happens happens, but learning from the players at Chelsea is a great experience. If I can get the chance to train with the first team every day, I think it would be a great achievement for me.

“Every day you get to train with players like (Diego Costa and Eden Hazard) is another lesson for you. I have to take it on board and try to take it into my game as well.”
