Tammy Abraham could get into Chelsea's team now, according to Bristol City manager Lee Johnson.

The 18-year-old, who is on loan from the Blues, has impressed during his spell at Ashton Gate and has scored nine goals in 11 appearances for the Robins.

Abraham came off the bench on Wednesday night to score the winner against Fulham and his manager believes that the world is his oyster, as long as he keeps his feet on the ground.

Johnson said: “He's a lovely lad who loves his football. That's the bit you can't change. He's got to love his football and not love being a football.

“If he continues that in his career, the world is his oyster. He is top class. He could into Chelsea's team now.

“He's a poacher. His movement is very sharp and when he's energised and got the buzz he's a handful. He's got stuff to learn.

Tammy Abraham of Chelsea is challenged by Tosin Adarabioyo of Manchester City

“He's 18 years old. He needs to improve technically, like with his back to goal. I feel privileged that Bristol City have one of England's brightest young stars.”

Abraham is a pleasure for Johnson to work with on the training ground and, indeed, the biggest problem the Robins boss has is curbing his enthusiasm

“He's a great lad. He's really enthusiastic. He loves his football and training,” Johnson explained.

“You've got to keep the reins on him though. I gave him an 11 day rest 10 days ago and I ring him up and he's playing one v one in the garden with his brother (Timmy) who is at Charlton.

“I had to give him a verbal ear-bashing down the phone telling him to get upstairs and rest.

“That's the nature of the beast and he wants to play football whether that's in the garden or in front of 25,000 people. He loves scoring goals.”

He added: “You find that it endears you towards him because of that. He's producing the goods on the pitch but we believe he would.

“Sometimes you have to say thank you and show that gratitude that we've got a top player. We will do our very best to send him back to Chelsea a better player than when he came from.”

Abraham's attitude was notable from the minute he first signed for Bristol City.

Johnson revealed: “I think that was just as important that he and his family wanted to come to us. We showed him the love quite early in the process. They're an emotional family who want the best for their boy.

“One example, he's got a nice car as his one exuberance and he asked if he should change his car for the first two months before coming in.

“Having that thought process in his mind said a lot about him. I said be humble and the person you are and the lads will take to you straight away. He's a nice lad and holds himself in a lovely way.”
