Brentford fans increasing their support for Romaine Sawyers has helped the midfielder shine at Griffin Park, according to Dean Smith.
The Saint Kitts and Nevis international was the subject of jeers in October against Huddersfield but has subsequently won a lot of the supporters over with a consistent run of performances.
The Bees' change in strategy to have additional focus on their wingers Sergi Canos, Jota and Florian Jozefzoon has also helped Sawyers thrive at Griffin Park and dictate play.
Smith said: “That's the players around him as well and allowed him to dictate games. He has improved and looks more confident in himself.
“He's got the support of the fans which helps and he can be a big player for us.”
Sawyers has credited Dean Smith for his support over the season and, while the pair had talks in the difficult times, the head coach never stopped backing his player.
The Bees boss added: “I'd speak to him but Romaine knows he had my support otherwise I wouldn't have brought him to the football club if I didn't think he was capable.”
