Kevin Doyle is coy about any salary cut he took to resurrect his career at QPR – but agrees his loan deal from Wolves is a mix of finance and football.

The football part sees the striker hoping to add to his one goal so far against of all clubs Reading this afternoon where Doyle started his English career.

The Irish international was a Royal from 2005 to 2009, and keeps a house in the town he can’t use because it’s rented.

He was the front man rented by Rangers to replace Charlie Austin in the transfer window, and plans to score as many goals as the stricken striker even if he has suffered a cut to his reported £40,000-a-week at Molineux.

It was pointed out most players joining Hoops in recent spend-happy times saw their wages shoot up.

“Things have changed,” said Doyle with a smile.

“I don’t want to discuss contracts – but there were a lot of negotiations. There were a number of reasons for Wolves allowing me to go – and you’d have to ask them. But financial reasons as well as football? It was a bit of everything.”

Doyle insists he will return to Wolves in time for pre-season where his future may get permanently sorted. In the meanwhile, contrary to the norm of such things, he will celebrate if he adds to his tally against Reading.

He won’t be the first. There are four already this campaign to net against their old club.

“I had three years in the Championship where I scored plenty of goals and I’ll try and replicate it,” said Doyle.

“I still look for results at Reading, although there’s no one there from my time, and I’ve never been back because Wolves and Reading were in different divisions. Rangers have been to Madejski already this season, but it’s my first opportunity to play them.

“If I score? I think it’s understandable if anyone scores a goal – they celebrate.”
