Brentford will miss out on the Championship playoffs this season by just two points, while Fulham will stay up comfortably.

That's according to predictions by the Trinity Mirror Data Unit, which also claim that Bournemouth and Norwich will claim the top two slots.

The predictions suggest that the Bees, following last night's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, will finish seventh on 78 points, two behind sixth placed Ipswich on 80.

Mark Warburton's side are expected to average 2.4 points per game in their remaining three fixtures. However, Ipswich are expected to average two points a game, as are Wolves, and Derby are predicted to average 2.4 per game.

Staying up? Fulham could be celebrating come the end of the season

That leaves the predicted top six as Bournemouth and Norwich joint top on 88 points, Watford third on 87 followed by Middlesbrough (85), Derby (82) and Ipswich (80)

The predictions also suggest that Fulham will finish five points above the relegation zone on 47 points, just ahead of Millwall on 42.

Kit Symons' side are expected to average just 0.7 points per game in their remaining three fixtures, which includes tonight's crunch match against Rotherham.

Millwall are expected to take 0.9 points per game in their remaining fixtures, while Rotherham are expected to average one per game and Brighton 0.3 per game.

Role reversal: The Bees were buzzing and the Cottagers were cursing on Good Friday, but those roles could be reversed at the end of the season

That would leave Fulham, Brighton and Rotherham all tied on 47 points, five clear of Millwall and eight clear of Wigan.
At the other end of the table, Wigan and Millwall look set to join Blackpool in League One next season with the two sides predicted to finish on 39 and 42 points respectively.

To make the predictions, the league was broken down into six bands of four teams with Bournemouth, Norwich, Middlesbrough and Watford in band six, and Blackpool, Wigan, Millwall and Rotherham in band one for example.

The average number of points won by each team against sides in those bands were then calculated for home and away fixtures.

These averages were then cross referenced against the bands of the teams in their upcoming games, to project how many points they would get from these matches based on past performances against similar sides.
