St Josephs under-10 girls secured the Middlesex Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot-out after their final against Hampstead had ended deadlocked at 1-1 after extra time.

Watched by a good crowd in the final at Kodak, St Josephs were a goal down at half time but fought back well with a determined second half performance, which was rewarded when Lucy Nagle battled to win the ball, turned, and saw her shot deflect off a Hampstead defender into the net to give St Josephs a deserved equaliser.

Extra time failed to break the deadlock and the tension mounted as the match went to a shoot-out decider, and rose higher when St Josephs' first spot kick, taken by Kelly Kirwan, was saved.

But when Hampstead hit the post with their first kick, then Elise Walsh netted, the Saints had the advantage.

Hampstead missed their next two kicks, while Tunica Walsh had hers saved. But, when keeper Mary-Kate Gonzalez Proctor netted, St Josephs were 2-0 up and Hampstead needed to score from their last two kicks to deny them the trophy.

Mary-Kate ensured they didn't with a good save and St Josephs celebrated a County Cup triumph.

St Josephs squad: Mary-Kate Gonzalez Proctor, Aisling O'Grady, Elise Walsh, Claire Williams, Laura Coffey, Tunica Appah, Olivia Gibbons, Alice Cunnife, Lilly Forster, Nikisha Clarke, Amy McMahon, Kelly Kirwan , Lucy Nagle, Hollie Chappin.
