The spectre of Conference South relegation grew ominously clearer for struggling Hayes and Yeading United last night.

A 90th minute strike from Welling loanee Kieran Hughes-Mason was to little too late to save them from a 2-1 defeat against Farnborough at a heavily-sanded Kingfield.

United, who have now lost six games in succession are now just three points ahead of third from bottom Tonbridge Angels.

With the Football Association and the Conference refusing any request to extend the playing season, their much-changed squad will be severely tested  by an 18 games in 56 days marathon, as they try to climb away from the drop.
