Gary Smith hopes to be back in training for Brentford FC within four weeks.

The midfielder has not featured this campaign after injuring his ankle in training on the eve of the new season.

He said: "I've been told three to four weeks to be able to train by my specialist, but I'm going to do as much as I can to get myself fit so I don't have to do too much when I get back.

"I'm naturally fit anyway, and I've been doing weights and bike work in the gym, so hopefully I don't get beasted when I get back."

A recent injection failed to work, and Smith will have more surgery this week to sort out bits of floating bone in his ankle.

He said: "It's not going too well. I've had two injections now and it's still a bit sore, so I'm going to have another operation this week.

"The injection was to break up some scar tissue. It's still sore, so they need to cut it open and get the fragments of bone out."
