SPORTSMAN LEAGUE DIVISION TWO SHOOTS & LEAVES............6 NOTTING DALE..........2
TAKE A game poised to decide relegation issues - chuck in some controversial refereeing decisions - light the blue touch-paper and retire to a safe distance.
Sadly for Notting Dale they're going to be distant from Division One next season after losing this derby- but both managers are still scratching their heads this morning over the officialdom of Mr Yusuf Ersoy - the man in the middle.
Both LeroyThomas (Notting Dale) and Gerry Rockett from Shoots were adamant that Bart Sliwa's sending-off for, wait for it, taking a penalty at the wrong time, was one of the more bizarre sights they've witnessed in a joint 20 years of playing and managing Sunday football. Shoots' hot-shot Sliwa dragged his gobsmacked jaw back to the touchline after allegedly rolling a ball past Thomas into the Dale goal from the spot. Boss Thomas was between the sticks and when Mr Ersoy awarded a penalty to mystify both sides, the Dale keeper leaned on a post in protest. Sliwa took the kick - and was then sent off.
Gerry Rockett from the Shoots camp was equally mystified.
He said: "You expect some iffy decisions in Sunday football - but we couldn't make head-nor-tail of this one. We asked after the game, but the ref waved us away."
However, the backdrop was some pretty tasty tackles flying around as both sides set out determined to preserve their status.
Dale actually took the lead twice through Troy Nelson and Machus Hilton, but were pegged back with hits from Sliwa - who scored twice before his red card; Spencer Taffurelli also got a brace including the eventual disputed penalty and Jamie Matthews (2) likewise buried Dale hopes.
