Slavisa Jokanovic has said his Fulham side 'paid an expensive price' after a mistake led his team to a 1-0 defeat against Sunderland.

Some lapse defending allowed substitute Josh Maja to slide the ball home in the 77th minute, giving the Black Cats their first win in 364 days.

Speaking after the game, Jokanovic said: "We are disappointed.

"We made enough chances to go back with some points. We weren’t clinical enough in the Sunderland box, and it was poor defending when they scored the goal. We had enough players In our box but we gave their player so much space and time to finish the action and then we paid an expensive price for one big mistake.

We tried to find our style, we try to dominate the game and we dominated many minutes. We created the chances but we didn’t finish the chances, and this can happen.

“We wanted to score first and showed the clear intention, but in the end the situation where they scored the goal is simple. We didn’t play at a good level to avoid this goal. We came here to win the game and to push hard for the three points, and we pushed hard but didn’t show enough clarity.”
