AFC Wimbledon captain Alan Bennett is dreaming of an FA Cup third round tie with Arsenal ahead of this evening’s draw.
Bennett, who lost his place in the side for the 1-0 win at Adams Park, and the rest of Neal Ardley’s squad will be watching live on TV as they discover their fate tonight.
But the Irishman only has eyes on one ball, number two, in the hope that the football gods answer his prayers for a trip to the Emirates on January 3.
“Arsenal away,” came the reply from Bennett when asked for his dream tie. “I’m a Cork City fan but I like Arsenal, I like the way they play.
“I was in a Reading squad that went to the Emirates a few years ago but I didn’t even make the bench. It was great to be there though.
“I had some good times in the cup with Cheltenham. We went to Spurs and had a home game against Everton. Away at Spurs was a really great day for the club.”
Boss Ardley will also be watching the draw unfold at the The Deep aquarium in Hull this evening and admits the FA Cup is proving a welcome distraction for his side, who find themselves languishing in 16th in the League Two table.
“I hope and pray that the club get the draw they deserve,” Ardley added.
“It’s absolutely huge to have something to look forward to in January with a tough set of December fixtures.
"I hope they get the glamour tie and they get something that not only brings a bit of attention to the club, but also brings in some finances that they could do with.”
